Dashavatari Nights

Moving exhibition

( 2019 - Ongoing )

Goa and Maharashtra

Since time immemorial, Dashavatar artists have travelled a long route from village to village with trunks on their heads.

They travelled to perform the folk and to spread the word of morals and ethics by the name of the Hindu God Vishnu. That starry night under the moonlight in a pandal, they made people experience the folk tales of 18 Puranas, only based on theatrical mastery, knowledge and what they always had in their trunk. Trunks being the vital entity has travelled to see all of those villages, the struggles and the pursuits of life offered to a Dashavatar artist.

Inspired by the heritage of Dashavatar, I present to you my moving exhibition, "Dashavatari Trunk." An immersive experience that invites the audience to embark on a sensory voyage, where touching, feeling, and wearing the art become integral to the narrative.I embark on a unique artistic endeavour that blurs the boundaries between art and experience. It's an immersive installation where the trunk itself becomes an integral part of the artwork, serving as a vessel for storytelling and connection. As the artist, I travel alongside this trunk, bringing it to different spaces and inviting audiences to engage with it in profound and personal ways.

At the heart of this exhibition is a crafted photobook-a visual folk tale that serves as the central narrative. This photo book takes viewers on a journey through an enchanting realm, weaving together photographs to evoke a sense of wonder and evoke emotions. The story within the photobook embraces elements of folklore, mythology, and personal reflections, transcending time and space to resonate with the human experience.

The true essence of "Dashavatari Trunk" lies in the interaction between the audience and the art. As you immerse yourself in this tactile experience, you are encouraged to touch, feel, and even wear the art. By breaking down the conventional barrier between viewer and artwork, I aim to foster a deeper connection—a sense of belonging and ownership that extends beyond the visual. It is an invitation to step outside the confines of traditional exhibition spaces and embark on a shared adventure. It is a celebration of the senses, an ode to imagination, and a reminder that art has the power to transcend the limitations of time and space. Together, we will delve into the depths of this visual folk tale, feeling the essence of the artwork.

Join me on this voyage and embrace the profound and transformative experience of "Dashavatari Trunk"
